Province's Finances Prove McGuinty Government Out of Step with Ontarians

News:

BRACEBRIDGE--Progressive Conservative Finance Critic, MPP Norm Miller commented on Ontario's First Quarter Finances, released today.

"Mr. Duncan waited until the last possible moment to release these numbers because they contradict his remarks about anticipated revenues," said Norm Miller. "Canadian economists are being careful to consider all the leading economic indicators in forecasts for the remainder of 2010, but not Mr. Duncan."

Earlier this summer Duncan announced that he expected to see a reduction in Ontario's first quarter deficit because Ontario's economy is "looking up" and "we know that things performed better than we assumed."

"Ontario's first quarter results prove that our economy is very fragile. Taxes like the HST and Eco-Tax, erode consumer confidence and keep Ontarians from spending. What's more, families and seniors are seeing their auto insurance premiums and heating bills go up."

"How can Ontarians have any confidence in this government's ability to tackle the debt and deficit when they are so out of touch with the people they govern," concluded Miller.
